My Divine Devotions: When the Holy Spirit speaks

December 22, 2010

Acts 16:6-7 6 Paul and Silas went through the regions of Phrygia and Galatia because the Holy Spirit kept them from speaking the word in the province of Asia. 7 They went to the province of Mysia and tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus wouldn't allow this.

One of the hallmarks of spiritual maturity is the ability to follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit and obey. Obedience brings experiences that we would otherwise never have because they are ordained by God specifically for us in his timing. Paul and Silas were prevented from going to places that were not in God’s plan for them. What an impact this had on the spread of Christianity.

When the Holy Spirit speaks instructions into your life, obey. Don’t question, second guess, rationalize or discuss God’s plans with others. Allow God to use your gifts and talents in his divine timing. A truly empowered Christian life begins when we lay down our agenda and allow God to work through us.
