What God can’t do

August 21, 2011
I’m sharing notes that I took from a sermon on what God cannot do by the late Pastor Adrian Rogers. I recently discovered his teachings on the radio and his preaching penetrates my brain cells in amazing ways. Visit his Love Worth Finding Ministries for the complete sermon outline.

I simply can’t comprehend that God cannot do anything. That isn’t possible. But as explained by Pastor Rogers, it made sense. Here are my notes.

God can’t:

          Fail - Ephesians 1:11 (GW)
11 God also decided ahead of time to choose us through Christ according to his plan, which makes everything work the way he intends.
God can’t:

          Lie - Titus 1:2 (GW)
2 My message is based on the confidence of eternal life. God, who never lies, promised this eternal life before the world began.
God can’t:

Be tempted with evil - James 1:13-14 (GW)
13 When someone is tempted, he shouldn't say that God is tempting him. God can't be tempted by evil, and God doesn't tempt anyone.
14 Everyone is tempted by his own desires as they lure him away and trap him.
God can’t:

Deny His own rules2 Timothy 2:5 (GW)
5 Whoever enters an athletic competition wins the prize only when playing by the rules.
God can’t:

Be unjust - Romans 3:26 (GW)
26 He waited so that he could display his approval at the present time. This shows that he is a God of justice, a God who approves of people who believe in Jesus.
God can’t:

                    Force loving obedience

1 John 4:16 (GW)
16 We have known and believed that God loves us. God is love. Those who live in God's love live in God, and God lives in them.
2 Peter 3:9 (GW)
9 The Lord isn't slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn't want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.
Psalm 16:11 (GW)
11 You make the path of life known to me. Complete joy is in your presence. Pleasures are by your side forever,
·        Forced love isn’t love

·        Just like no one can force you to receive a gift…

o   Because of its very nature …

o   Obedience is like breathing – it’s a gift that God gives us
