Honor – above all - Numbers 12:3-10

June 26, 2011
I like to share my notes when a sermon touches my soul. JentezenFranklin spoke of honor and how our society today is lacking honor in treatment of the people closest to us, those we work for and for leaders. Generations are growing up without training in a very basic value that is required by God.

Franklin began his sermon by telling the story of Moses and his siblings, Miriam and Aaron who complained about the wife Moses chose. God heard their talk…and responded.

Numbers 12:1-2 (AMP)
1 NOW MIRIAM and Aaron talked against Moses [their brother] because of his Cushite wife [from Ethiopia], for he had married a Cushite woman.
2 And they said, Has the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? Has He not spoken also by us?
And the Lord heard it.
Of course, Moses had God’s favor, so … God called all three of them to appear before him …
Numbers 12:3-10 (AMP)
3 Now the man Moses was very meek (gentle, kind, and humble) or above all the men on the face of the earth.
4 Suddenly the Lord said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, Come out, you three, to the Tent of Meeting. And the three of them came out.
5 The Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the Tent door and called Aaron and Miriam, and they came forward.
God defended Moses!
6 And He said, Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord make Myself known to him in a vision and speak to him in a dream.
7 But not so with My servant Moses; he is entrusted and faithful in all My house.
8 With him I speak mouth to mouth [directly], clearly and not in dark speeches; and he beholds
God was angered by their disrespect of Moses. See what happens to Miriam…
the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?
9 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them, and He departed.
10 And when the cloud departed from over the Tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. And Aaron looked at Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous!
God demands our honor and respect - not only for him, but for those around us. Other Bible examples of how serious God considers honor are found in:
In Genesis 9:21-29, read how the son of Ham, Canaan, was cursed because of his father’s disrespect to his father, Noah. Our disrespect and lack of honorable living causes generation issues.
The list goes on and on. Honor counts. Read these Scriptures.
Honor for Christ -> John 5:23 (AMP); Hebrews 2:9 (AMP)
Honor for God -> 1 Samuel 2:30 (AMP)
Honor for older people -> Proverbs 16:31 (MSG)
Honor for wives -> 1 Peter 3:7
Honor for church leaders -> 1 Timothy 5:17 (KJV)

Honor isn’t optional. God requires it.
